We dated for three months before we were "officially" engaged.

14 years next month!

I honestly can't think of anything he does that surprises me any more.

His big strong arms... I always feel safe in them.

His knowledge and testimony of the Gospel.

Cajun Chicken Pasta at TGI Friday's.

He likes to watch football and baseball, but doesn't play any sports.

About 3 weeks after we started dating, in my dorm room.

11. What is your favorite thing to do as a couple?
Play board games.

Yes, 5 with one on the way.

Yes, he's a stand up comedian!

37 years young!

Family Pictures

First of all, I need to apologize for not updating my blog for so long. Between being sick, being exhausted, and being busy beyond belief, I just haven't been able to get to it. I do want to thank everyone for the thoughts and prayers over the last month or so. They really help to lift me up when I'm having a hard day.

We had some family pictures done a couple of weeks ago and just got them back, so I thought I'd share them. I've been horribly slacking over the years in the family picture department, so it was really good to get these done. But it turned out to be a very difficult day for me too, which completely caught me by surprise. Having these pictures taken was another of those "hits you hard in the gut" kind of experiences. The ones that completely catch you off guard and remind you of your heartache and pain when you least expect it.

The day had already been crazy and hectic to begin with. By the time we were ready to leave for the picture appointment, we were quite frazzled and running late. We arrived at the park and met the photographer. Things were going well, the kids were being fairly cooperative, and I was just starting to feel like I could take a breath and relax when it hit me like a ton of bricks.

There is someone missing.

She should be here in my arms.

I'll never have a family picture with her in it.

We had some snap shots taken of our family at my brother-in-law's wedding last January. The lighting was off and they didn't turn out very good at all. But after we lost Makelle, I came to treasure those pictures because I realized that they were the only pictures we had of our entire family at the time. I was 17 weeks pregnant with Makelle when they were taken.

Somehow I managed to hold back the tears while we had these pictures taken. But in my mind I couldn't stop thinking about how old she would be, what she might have looked like, what I would have dressed her in. I was most definitely not expecting the onslaught of emotions that hit me, so I'm glad I was able to make it through with some decent photos. I hope that maybe Makelle was there with us in spirit and knows how much I was missing her that day.
